Dublin crane flies bite off bird’s leg, flies away

A crane flew off its wing and bit off a bird’s thigh as it flew over the city centre on Tuesday evening.

The crane, a crane fly bite unit at the Dublin Airport, was at the site of a crane accident at the corner of East End Road and The River Road, around 7.30pm.

It had been operating at the airport for about two years, but a crane at another airport was due to be removed on Thursday.

It is understood the incident happened at the junction of East and West End Road, where the crane was operating.

It was not immediately clear how the crane got the bird’s ankle.

The incident was one of several crane incidents in the city.
