Cherry and crane mountings to be dismantled at crane site north of St. Joseph

A crane operator is preparing to dismantle the timber frames of four cherry trees on a crane site near St. Joe, Nebraska.

The tree fell on March 11.

The contractor was working in the area when the tree fell.

It’s unclear if the contractor, John Staggs, will be charged with a crime.

Staggs told KUOW-TV in Lincoln that he was not at the site to cut the trees.

Instead, he was working with contractors on the crane to move the timber.

The crane operator was not immediately available for comment.

The trees are located at the intersection of North Street and East Avenue in St. Mary’s County.

Stagg is a subcontractor to a contractor called S&G Contracting.

The company’s website says it is “a full service timber contractor.”

A spokesperson for the state forestry department did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
